[A] RAILWAY trespasser who tried to steal almost 100 metres of metal cable has been jailed by a judge.
Roland Brady Wilson, 27, was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court today (FRI). Wilson had admitted charges of railway trespass, theft of £200 worth of copper/steel cable and resisting a police officer called to the crime scene.
This followed an incident, on April 20, on sidings at Petteril Bridge in the city. A train driver raised the alarm after seeing Wilson removing cable.
The court heard Wilson, of Partridge Place, Carlisle, was in breach of a suspended sentence imposed earlier this year for a previous offensive weapon crime. He was said to have “struggled with mental health difficulties throughout his adult life”.
Recorder Ahmed Nadim sent Wilson to prison, activating the six-month suspended sentence in its entirety.
However, the judge imposed concurrent one-month jail terms for the April crimes, telling Wilson: “I am not going to add to your woes.”
