[F]ree Big Lunch events will be held in Botcherby, Harraby and Yewdale community centres on Sunday 18 June, between 11am and 1pm.
Coinciding with Father’s Day, The Big Lunch the UK’s annual get-together reaches into communities across the UK, giving neighbours a reason to gather in streets, parks, community centres and shared places for good food and company.
Part of Eden Project Communities; it is made possible by the Big Lottery Fund.
Launched in 2009, 2017 will be its ninth year. An incredible 7.3 million people joined the Big Lunch in 2016. This year will be bigger than ever, as it partners with the Jo Cox Foundation for The Great Get Together: the biggest weekend of community celebrations the UK has ever seen!.
In Carlisle, with the support of Carlisle City Council, Botcherby, Harraby and Yewdale community centres will all offer a variety of activities:
Botcherby
Activities will include a disco with games and family activities including a face painter.
A Border Hog Roast will be available.
Harraby in partnership with Pennine Way Primary School and Harraby Together We Can
Activities will include family activities including an appearance by Jason the Jester, arts & crafts provided by Barnardo’s and advice and information from Riverside and Cumbria Police. Staff will be ‘dressed as dads’ to link in with Father’s Day.
Residents are asked to bring their own lunch.
Yewdale
Activities will include children’s entertainment including a face painter, trampolining and Father’s Day themed games, including darts for dads.
Jacket potatoes with fillings and soup will be served between 12-1pm.
