[O]ne of the fashion world’s most flamboyant characters has been spotted making a special trip on Windermere Lake Cruises.
Dame Vivienne Westwood took the private charter up England’s longest lake last night, Monday 19 June, ahead of a talk at the University of Cumbria’s Institute for Leadership and Sustainability. The fashion icon and environmental activist enjoyed a trip on one of Windermere’s traditional wooden launches, from the private pier at the Cragwood Hotel in glorious sunshine.
It’s the first time Vivienne Westwood has been to the Lake District, and she was accompanied on the boat by her husband Andreas Kronthaler, along with her son, daughter-in-law and children. Representatives from Impact International, the University of Cumbria, Brantwood and The Armitt museum were also present.
Sales and Marketing Manager, Jennifer Cormack, says, “We see a lot of famous faces on Windermere, but it was fantastic to welcome a real trailblazer of UK culture. As Vivienne is in the Lakes to talk about championing the environment and our natural landscape, this was the perfect eco-friendly way for her explore Windermere from the perspective of the lake.”
