[A] man has been charged with a terrorism offence in Cumbria.
On Friday 23 June police received intelligence that a man was planning to attack people attending an LGBT event at New Empire, Dalton Road, Barrow.
The event was scheduled to take place between 9pm into the early hours of the morning.
Armed police were deployed to the area as a precaution.
A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of threats to kill on Friday 23 June 2017 and was released under investigation.
A spokesman for Cumbria Police said: “Ethan Stables, aged 19, of Egerton Court, Barrow, has been charged with an offence under Section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000.
“He has been remanded into custody to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Thursday 29 June 2017.
“Cumbria Counter Terrorism officers are continuing to work with colleagues from the North West Counter Terrorism Unit.”
