[A]llerdale Borough Council has arranged three town centre clean-ups in July and is on the lookout for volunteers to help out.
The Council’s Street Scene team will lead the community clean-ups, with help from contractors FCC, including the new cohort of apprentices, and ISS. This ever popular initiative will include litter-picking and painting to help spruce up the areas prior to them being judged for the annual Cumbria in Bloom competition.
The team will be out over the next few days at the following times and places, where members of the public are welcome to join in:
- Monday 3 July – Workington, meet at 10am at Allerdale House
- Wednesday 5 July – Maryport, meet at 10am at The Wave Centre
- Tuesday 11 July – Aspatria, meet at 10am at the library
The Town Councils will be providing refreshments for volunteers in each area.
Councillor Michael Heaslip, Executive Member for Locality and Environmental Quality, said: “These clean-ups are a fantastic way to help give our borough a facelift. One of the Council’s priorities is to make sure our town centres are attractive and welcoming, but we need as many hands on deck as possible to do a great job. If you have some free time, even if it’s only an hour, we encourage you to come along and do your bit for your town.”
