[S]taff at the National Trust’s Whitehaven Coast site are hosting a Bioblitz on Sunday 2 July, so if you’ve ever wanted to become a wildlife explorer and find as much wildlife as you can then this might be the opportunity for you.
Ranger Chris Gommersall said: “Our team of experienced naturalists and wildlife watchers need your help to find and identify as many different species of birds, bugs, plants and beasties as we can during the day. Whether you’re a spider specialist or a nature novice there will be a chance for you to get stuck in and record some wildlife along the Whitehaven Coast.”
Guided walks and ID sessions will be running throughout the day with bug hunts and wildflower wanders around the site to help you identify what you see.
Chris went on to say; “We want to know as much about what’s on the site as we can, and a Bioblitz is a great opportunity to get people discovering something different and looking closer at a place they visit regularly. It’s a real scientific investigation and all the information collected will help us to plan the future management of the wildflower grasslands.”
All the events are free, there’s no need to book and hopefully there’s something for all abilities, all the details will be on the Whitehaven Coast facebook page https://www.facebook.com/whitehavencoast . You don’t need any prior knowledge so just come along, help out and see what you can discover along the coast. For any enquiries please contact Chris Gomersall on 07785226698
