[P]CSOs have spent a week volunteering their services to projects designed to improve communities across Carlisle.
Between 24th June and 2nd July, local PCSOs took part in a number of projects that they had helped organise as part of Give a Day to the City 2017. They included:
- Clean up at a Botcherby Community Centre
- Clean up and gardening work at Petteril Bank Community Centre
- Clean up at a green in Denton Holme
- Decorating at the Oak Tree Animals’ Charity
- Gardening at Lister House Day Care Centre
- Bag packing at Cranstons Food Hall with funds going to Eden Valley Hospice
- Working with The Rock Youth Project in Currock
Sergeant Lewis Powell said: “The PCSOs that took part in this scheme really enjoyed themselves and were able to make further local contacts within the areas they cover.
“A key priority for police is to improve the quality of life within the areas we serve. Initiatives such as this can go a great length into bringing communities together.
“I’d like to thank the public for their support during these projects as it required a team effort.”
Cumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner Peter McCall also volunteered his services and joined others in a community garden tidy up at Lister House Day Care Centre.
Peter McCall said: “I think the Give a Day to the City is a brilliant initiative and Andy Fearon and his team who organised it, deserve great credit for setting it up. The project has enthused and mobilised so many volunteers and has made a real difference to communities who just need a hand. Well done to the Carlisle PCSO’s and everyone who volunteered across the city – I know that your hard work has been really appreciated.”
Andy Fearon, Organiser of Give a Day to the City 2017, said: “It was great to partner with Carlisle Police this year with Give a Day to the city. All of the PCSO’s worked really hard and all the projects made a big impact. They also helped build relationships with the local community. We look forward to working with the police moving forward.”
