[A] CRIMINAL who assaulted his mother while “off his head” on drugs has been sent to prison.
Carlisle Crown Court heard Ritchie Edgar, 30, initially said “horrible things” to Denise Edgar while “worse for wear” at their Iredale Crescent home in Workington.
He then stood in the doorway and pushed his mother, who suffers from ill health, as she tried to leave the property.
When police arrived, Edgar threatened an officer with electrocution. He said “you will need firearms to deal with me”, and provoked a “protracted” stand-off before calming down. His criminal conduct, on June 26, came just three days after he had been spared prison by a judge for a dangerous driving offence which included a police chase.
Edgar, a man with 109 crimes on his record, pleaded guilty to assaulting Ms Edgar and was sentenced today (WED).
Judge Barbara Forrester rejected calls for Edgar to be given a further chance, and imposed an immediate 15-and-a-half-month prison term.
