[A] HOMELESS man has been jailed after admitting his fifth knife crime in just over two years.
Philip Kyte, 28, committed his latest offence in Carlisle city centre on June 8. This was just three days after his release from a previous prison sentence – imposed for an almost identical offence.
Carlisle Crown Court heard Kyte was found by police to be in possession of a knife he stole from a discount store. He had received four separate prison sentences, in 2015 and 2016, for previous possession of bladed articles.
From the dock Kyte, of no fixed address, conceded he was “not bothered” about stopping his cycle of criminal activity.
But, locking him up for 10 months, Recorder Michael Murray said: “I have to tell you, Mr Kyte, all that happens is that the sentences get longer and longer unless the pattern is interrupted in some way.”
