[T]HIS is the dramatic moment a shopkeeper confronted a knife-wielding would-be robber.
The CCTV footage shows the owner defend his store by throwing stock – including cans of drink – at the offender who is now behind bars.
The culprit was chased out of the shop empty handed.
Raymond Wilson, 33, of Welsh Terrace, Stanley, pleaded guilty to attempted robbery and threatening a person with a blade/sharply pointed article in a public place.
The sentence comes after he walked into the ‘News and Booze’ off-licence in New Kyo, Stanley, on March 31, and threated the shopkeeper with a knife.
On Friday, June 30, at Durham Crown Court Wilson was sentenced to nine years behind bars for attempted robbery. For the threat charge he was given a six month sentence to run concurrently.
PC Luke Terry, from Consett CID, said: “The shopkeeper was quietly going about his business when he was confronted by Wilson brandishing a knife.
“No-one should be put in such a situation and we are pleased that as a result of our investigation we have taken a dangerous man off the streets.”
