[O]n Sunday 16th July the Cumbria’s Women’s and Girls Soft Ball Festivals will be running at Keswick Cricket Club.

The ECB is launching 180 Soft Ball Cricket Festivals nationally for women of all abilities to mark this summer’s ICC Women’s World Cup. Cumbria Cricket will be working with local clubs to deliver six inspiring and action-packed soft ball festivals across the county in July 2017. Keswick Cricket Club’s is the third and final wave of festivals. And so far an amazing 300+ women have signed up – smashing Cumbria Cricket’s target of 240!

Each festival will have their own entertainment package, including BBQs, music, and stalls. Soft Ball Cricket is a new, fun, fast, social game for all abilities featuring a soft ball. Everyone who registers for the free event is told to expect something different! The Women’s Soft Ball Cricket Festivals are for everyone but specifically aimed at women who have not played cricket before.

Penny Thompson, Director of Women and Girls’ Cricket says: “We are delighted to be launching this national initiative in women’s cricket here in Cumbria. So many girls and women across the county are discovering cricket now, and they are showing us all how fun it can be in new and different formats. Women’s Soft Ball is a brilliant case of mixing up the rules to make the sport fit the players and I think we can all expect something very different from these festival days!”

Laura Marshall, Women and Girls’ Development Officer said: “We want to encourage everyone to come along and if you haven’t played cricket before, that’s perfect as we are targeting new women to cricket and we want you and your friends to have a great first experience of the game. The fun and friendly games will be eight-a-side, using a soft ball.

“The rules are designed to make the games fun, fast and easy to pick up! Our goal, is for everyone involved to have a fantastic experience, it’s more about the fun atmosphere on a festival theme with music playing, BBQ, different types of stalls and fun activities for the kids. Don’t miss out on a free fun day we would love for you to be part of it! And be prepared to expect and experience something different!”
