Windermere Ferry to close for urgent repairs

Windermere Ferry

Cumbria County Council will be closing Windermere Ferry tomorrow morning  (3 Aug 2017) at 9am for urgent repairs to the cable drive system, which pulls the ferry across the lake. It is anticipated the ferry will re-open later in the day subject to completion of the repairs.

The ferry is being closed at 9am to allow commuters to catch earlier ferries – the first ferry leaves Bowness at 6.50am, with further crossings approximately every 30 minutes.

A spokesman for Cumbria County Council said: “The council apologises for any inconvenience and asks people to plan their journeys accordingly.

“We will post updates about when the ferry will re-open throughout the day via social media channels – Facebook and Twitter search ‘Cumbria CC.’”
