[A]t around half past two on Monday afternoon Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team was called out to assist a 63-year-old woman from Staffordshire who had broken her leg very badly whilst ascending the Loft Beck footpath at the head of the Ennerdale valley.
A spokesman for Cockermouth MRT said: “The woman was quickly located by team members and treated by one of the team doctors.
“Due to the seriousness of her injury a decision was made to call for the assistance of a rescue helicopter.
“She was loaded into Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 199 who transported the casualty on to Carlisle Infirmary.
“Fantastic support and flying, from the crew of R199 from Prestwick – many thanks from the Team.”
