[A] THUG who carried out frenzied attacks on two men, eight months apart, has been jailed for a decade.
Part of George Glasson’s first shocking assault, on a Cleator Moor street in daylight last September, was captured on mobile phone footage filmed from a nearby vehicle. Glasson, 21, punched and kicked the man who, as he lay helpless on the floor, had his head stamped on five to 10 times.
Left unconscious and bloodied, the victim – who can’t be named for legal reasons – suffered a brain injury and will need permanent care for the rest of his life.
In April this year, Glasson attacked another man who suffered injuries all over his body, including a broken collarbone which needed surgery. During several separate incidents in Cleator Moor, Glasson punched the male, lashed out with a 90cm-long metal strip and later smashed a rock on his head as he tried to flee.
Described as “remorseful” for his crimes, Glasson was sentenced today (TUES) having admitted two grievous bodily harm charges.
Judge Barbara Forrester heard moving statements on behalf of both victims detailing the profound impact of the offending.
Speaking of the September attack, Judge Forrester told Glasson, of Ennerdale Road, Cleator Moor: “It is difficult to see an injury that could have been more serious without being fatal.”
An extended five-year licence period was added to the 10-year jail term.
