[T]wo men have been jailed for a brutal attack that left a man with a fractured eye socket.
Andrew Leitch Purves, aged 35, of Newcraighall, and Thomas McQueen Purves, aged 38, of Wallyford, were sentenced today (1st September) at Carlisle Crown Court.
The cousins both admitted to causing grievous bodily harm with intent following an assault at the Déjà Vu bar in Botchergate, Carlisle, on 15th April.
The assault was brought to end when a door supervisor intervened. The victim, a 51-year-old man from Carlisle, was left with a fractured eye socket, missing teeth and a gash to the back of his head.
Thomas Purves was sentenced for four years and four months. Andrew Purves was jailed for four years.
Acting Detective Sergeant Rob Ewin, North Cumbria CID, said: “This was an unprovoked and serious assault which was no doubt fuelled by alcohol.
“This type of behaviour is unacceptable and the actions of the defendants, captured on CCTV, clearly show their aggression in not only assaulting the victim but also those coming to his aid.
“Assaults of this nature have disastrous consequences for victims and wherever possible offenders will be put before the court.”
