Cumbria residents warned of cold callers

[C]umbria Trading Standards are warning residents in Cumbria to be on their guard from cold callers looking for driveway resurfacing or tarmacing work.

Consumers should be extremely cautious when approached by any cold callers offering to conduct work on their property.  These types of callers often use persuasive or aggressive tactics to get people to agree to have work carried out and then charge far more than was quoted for poor quality work or poor quality goods.

In most cases traders who call at your home should give a cooling off period which gives 14 days in which to cancel (there are some exceptions).  Trading Standards advice is to always say ‘NO’ to any cold callers, shop around for quotes and consider using a local trader who has been recommended by others.

For advice on such issues or to report an incident call the Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline on 03454 04 05 06 or visit www.adviceguide.org.uk or you can contact the Police on 101.
