[F]REE guided walks around the historic Whitehaven Marina are on offer this weekend (September 7-10) at The Beacon Museum, Whitehaven in celebration of Heritage Open Days.
Heritage Open Days is England’s largest festival of history and culture, bringing together over 2,500 organisations, 5,000 events and 40,000 volunteers across the nation.
Every year for four days in September, organisations throw open their doors to celebrate their heritage, community and history. Giving people the chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences for free.
The Copeland Pass will also be active from Thursday, September 7 enabling Copeland residents to access the core museum for free, during specified periods.
Residents can choose to purchase entry to the feature exhibition – Gladiators: a Cemetery of Secrets – which opens on September 16.
The exhibition features six sets of human remains, plus other Roman artefacts, and explores the lives of these men, thought to be Gladiators who perished in combat.
The guided walks depart from the ramp at The Beacon Museum at 10.30am and 2.30pm each day, for more information call 01946 592302.
