[I]n recognition of 100 years of Lions Clubs International, a carpet bed display has been planted in a flower bed at Corney Square in Penrith town centre, near to Penrith Town Hall.
Based on the Lions Clubs International logo, the flower bed was designed by Paul Emmerson of Eden District Council’s Contracts team and prepared and maintained by Alan Hall a gardener for Amey, the Council’s grounds maintenance contractor.
The ‘Lions’ are ordinary people within their local community who volunteer their free time to help out with humanitarian causes, both locally and nationally for the benefit of others. They are dedicated to the idea that people who live in a community are in the best position to know who needs help and why.
Councillor Adrian Todd, Services Portfolio Holder for the Council said; ‘’This floral display shows the quality of work undertaken by the Contracts team and their contractor, Amey and it is a fitting tribute to promote the Lions International Centenary and recognition for all the work done by their volunteers for the good of the community.’’
