[T]he volunteers at St Bees RNLI were requested to launch by Belfast Coastguard at 4:05pm on Wednesday 6 September to assist a 25 foot yacht en route to Whitehaven that had suffered engine failure.
The volunteer crew quickly arrived on scene but unfortunately due to the state of the tide they were unable to tow the vessel into Whitehaven Harbour until after 9:00pm.
As the sailing boat and its skipper were not in any immediate danger it was decided that the best course of action was for the lifeboat to return to the station and wait for the tide.
St Bees RNLI flank station at Workington launched around 9:00pm and towed the yacht safely into Whitehaven Harbour where they were met by members of Whitehaven HM Coastguard.
