[F]ell-running legend Wendy Dodds will open the Festival of the Fells in Ambleside with tales of long distance epics, and women running pioneers.
Wendy, still competing at the highest standard after almost 50 years on the fells, will give a talk about her exploits in the Lakes, Scotland and beyond, at the Golden Rule.
A member of Clayton le Moors Harriers who lives at Milnthorpe, Wendy was one of the first women to take part in long distance fell races. As a sports injury specialist, she also travelled with several British Olympic and World Championships athletics squads.
Her talk (Sept 21, 7pm, free entry) launches the four day festival in and around the town which will features a series of talks, films and outdoor events. A street market on the Saturday and Sunday will serve food from around the world, and there will be live music at various events throughout the festival.
