Jury discharged in Carlisle Crown Court “rape” trial

Carlisle Crown Court

[A] JURY in the trial of a man accused of rape has been discharged by a judge.

Peter Leo Craven, 67, denies an allegation of rape which arises out of an incident which is said to have occurred on March 27 last year.

Craven’s trial began at Carlisle Crown Court yesterday, when the case was opened to jurors by the prosecution.

However, today (TUES) the jury was discharged by Judge Peter Davies following an issue that arose on the second day of the hearing.

A new date for the trial of Craven, of Front Street, Brampton, near Carlisle, was fixed for February 26.

It is estimated that hearing will last around five days.

Users of social media are reminded not to post sensitive information that could jeopardise the future hearing.
