[A] MAN has been jailed for vowing to “chop up” a woman during a “petrifying” three-month harassment campaign.
Barry Simm, 38, held a large Samurai sword in a Workington street as he issued the threat towards Louise Bowman while she was inside a nearby house. Between March and June this year, Simm also vowed to kill Miss Bowman, spat at her near a taxi rank and told someone in a text: “I will stamp all over her head.”
He had continued to demand money from her despite a £200 debt being paid off.
Simm appeared at Carlisle Crown Court today (TUES), where he admitted possession of an offensive weapon in public, and putting a person in fear of violence by harassment.
Miss Bowman had stated: “It is petrifying for me to have to contemplate this on a daily basis.”
Simm was jailed for 16 months, and banned from contacting his victim in any way for seven years. Judge Lancaster told Simm, of Gosford Street, Liverpool: “Your conduct in relation to that (offending) was extreme.”
The judge added: “I have no doubt that the fear she had was genuine and it was clearly real.”
