[A] MAN is facing a life prison sentence for his role in violence which flared in Carlisle city centre.
Martin Anthony Woodhead, 32, was charged along with two siblings after trouble broke out in and around Carlisle Conservative Club on August 12.
Woodhead, along with his brother, 31-year-old David Anthony Woodhead admits two offences following the incident. These are causing Michael Dutton grievous bodily harm with intent; and attempting to cause Ryan Gibbons grievous bodily harm with intent.
Sister Samantha Lindsey Woodhead, 30, admits assaulting both Mr Dutton and Mr Gibbons, causing both actual bodily harm, and also assaulting Jacqueline Deary by beating.
Having entered their guilty pleas at Carlisle Crown Court, the trio will be sentenced on November 13. Martin Woodhead, of Chatsworth Square, and David Woodhead, of Parkside, both Carlisle, were remanded in custody in the meantime.
The court heard Martin Woodhead had in the past served an imprisonment for public protection (IPP) minimum term sentence. This is said to be for previous violence, and it was confirmed by his barrister he was a life imprisonment “candidate” for last month’s Carlisle crimes.
Samantha Woodhead, also of Parkside, Carlisle, was granted bail until the sentencing hearing.
