[A]BP Silloth has supported the annual award ceremony at Solway Community College, recognising students’ academic, community and sporting achievements for a second year in a row.
In doing so it has joined the ranks of other respected businesses in the area involved in sponsoring the ceremony, including Carr’s Flour Mills Ltd, DA Harrison and Origin Fertilisers.
During the evening ceremony, prizes were awarded by actor and local resident Tim Barker, best known for his roles in “A Month in the Country” and “Calendar Girls”. This was in line with the school’s tradition of having individuals living in Cumbria leading the ceremony every year. Students from Year 7 – Year 11 won ABP-sponsored awards in a range of STEM disciplines, including Mathematics, Resistant Materials and Science.
Carl Bevan, ABP’s North West Port Manager, said: “Being one of the businesses to help recognise and reward the talented pupils this school is famous for training in STEM subjects is a real privilege and we hope to continue doing so in future.
“As a significant business player in Cumbria we are committed to giving back to our local communities and helping identify and cultivate young talent allows us to do just that. We hope that a number of these bright pupils will be inspired to become some of the leaders in the UK maritime industry and will contribute to the future economic prosperity of the region.”
