Carlisle man arrested on suspicion of possessing imitation firearm

[A] man has been arrested in Carlisle city centre on suspicion of possession of an imitation firearm.

Police were called at 11:53am today (29th September) to a report of a man on Botchergate, Carlisle, in possession of what was believed to be a firearm. He did not make any threats to members of the public.

Armed officers were deployed to scene as a precautionary measure. A local 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of an imitation firearm and is currently in police custody.

An imitation gun has been seized by police.

Police would like to reassure members of the public that this was not a terrorism-related incident.
