[G]RASMERE Gingerbread® has been shortlisted in the Family-Owned Business of the Year category of this year’s Amazon Growing Business Awards.
It is the latest market acknowledgment of the 163-year-old family firm’s business acumen which is increasingly seen as major culinary ambassador for Cumbria and the Lake District.
“Doug Gurr, UK Country Manager at Amazon, “congratulated” the Grasmere-based busiest for reaching the final stage.
“The depth and breadth of this year’s shortlist proves why the UK is a great place to set up and run a business,” he said.
Hunter Ruthven, editor of Real Business, which created the awards – now in their 19th year – said previous winners had gone on to become global success stories.
Joanne Hunter, Co-owner of Grasmere Gingerbread® said: ““This is our fifth major business award nomination this year and we are naturally very excited.”
Grasmere Gingerbread® is one of eight finalists. Other businesses nominated include Mash Direct, Hay Hampers and KP Technology.
The winners will be announced at a prestigious awards ceremony in London on November 29.
Earlier this year Joanne won a Special Achievement award in the E3 Business Awards and was a finalist in the same competition’s Businesswoman of the Year category.
Grasmere Gingerbread® was also a family business finalist in two other business competitions run by Family Business United and the Federation of Small Businesses and Worldplay UK.
Joanne added: “Everyone in the business – from our own children to our amazing loyal staff – work incredibly hard, individually and as a team, to keep us moving forward.
“These awards recognise their commitment and endeavour which is why they are so special for us.”
