[O]n Saturday 14 October 2017, members of Morecambe’s volunteer lifeboat crew paid a visit to the HM Coastguard Search and Rescue base in Caernarfon, where they were given a tour of the control room and facilities as well as the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the capabilities and equipment carried aboard the base’s Sikorsky S-92 helicopter (call sign: Rescue 936).
With a flight crew of 4, the S-92 helicopter is the most advanced aircraft in Sikorsky’s civil product line, with the necessary speed, capacity and operational range to meet the needs of the UK search and rescue environment; having an air speed of 145 knots, a range of over 4 hours, capacity to carry 21 people, a twin hoist and a comprehensive medical suite.
Morecambe’s RNLI volunteer Lifeboat Operations Manager, Kevin Jackson, said “The visit provided a useful opportunity to promote a better understanding of both organisations’ capabilities; which can only benefit us operationally.”
