[P]atrick McGahon has been appointed as Chair of the Carlisle College Board.
Patrick, who lives in the Eden Valley, brings a wealth of experience, having worked as a Board Director in the NHS and the not-for-profit sector for over 20 years.
Patrick is the Director of Finance and Commercial Services at the NHS Business Services Authority and in this role has led the development of an Apprenticeship strategy. He is also a member of the Health & Financial Management Association (HFMA) Policy and Research Committee, who advise the HFMA on response to government health policy, and instigate research and best practice sharing in healthcare finance.
Patrick, a qualified accountant, having studied A-Level economics at Carlisle College is a graduate of the University of Manchester and has an MBA from Heriot-Watt University. He is a cycling and running enthusiast and is a keen supporter of Carlisle United.
Patrick’s appointment follows the retirement of long-standing Chair, David Carter, who after 10 years overseeing the development of Carlisle College and its £30 million investment programme, will enjoy his extra spare time pursuing his interests in tennis and travelling.
Patrick will lead the Board of Carlisle College as it embarks upon continued growth and development as part of NCG, one of the largest not-for-profit education and training groups in the UK with six colleges and two national training providers. The Carlisle College Board, comprising local members, will continue to ensure that the College meets the needs of learners, employers, partners and local communities.

I’m passionate about skills development and its paramount importance in growing Carlisle and the surrounding area. I look forward to driving forward the key role that the College has to play in implementing the Cumbria LEP Skills Investment Plan.
