[A]s part of the Autumn Beach Clean series Surfers Against Sewage and the Colourful Coast Partnership are hosting two beach cleans this weekend in Copeland.
Steve Wilson, Surfers Against Sewage volunteer rep in West Cumbria said ‘Each year our coastal communities brace themselves against the winter conditions that create a ‘Perfect Storm’ of plastic pollution washing onto our beaches. The Autumn Beach Clean extends deep into this darker, colder time than any other beach clean project. When, in the absence of summer’s tourist spotlight, the health of our coastlines can slip from the nation’s mind Surfers Against Sewage want people to get out and take action.’
On Saturday the team will be at Whitehaven’s North Shore to tackle to litter problem there. On Sunday they will head to St Bees, meeting in the car park near the Life Boat station. Both events start at 1pm and all the equipment you need will be provided, you just need to turn up, bring some friends and join in!
