[T]hree students from Richard Rose Sixth Form have been successful in securing places on the prestigious University of Cambridge shadowing scheme at the Fitzwilliam College.
Amber Robinson, Chelsea Brown and Sophie Ingledow have been successful in their applications to take part in the scheme. The scheme, which is supported by donations from alumni of Fitzwilliam College, will fully support travel costs and living expenses for the students.
The scheme is designed to engage with students in state schools who do not traditionally apply for places at the University of Cambridge. Cambridge colleges are allocated different ‘link areas’ in the UK in which to focus their efforts to improve access and widening participation. Fitzwilliam’s ‘link areas’ are Cheshire, Cumbria and the London boroughs of Hammersmith and Fulham.
Richard Johnson, Head of Richard Rose Sixth Form said: “I am delighted that our students have been selected to take part in the shadowing scheme. It will not only give them an insight into university life, but it will also give them the opportunity to visit one of the most prestigious universities in the world. Amber, Chelsea and Sophie are truly exceptional students. I am sure they will find this experience rewarding.”
Student Chelsea Brown said: “I am hoping to secure a place at Oxford when I finish sixth form. This seemed like a great opportunity to see what life is like at a top university which will be a really good experience for me. I will be shadowing an under graduate for 3 days and staying in Halls.”
Student Amber Robinson said: “This seemed like a great chance for me to sample university life. I am looking forward to seeing how lectures are delivered and find out about how teaching and learning takes place at Cambridge. I will be applying to universities next year and I hope this experience will help me make the right choice.”
Student Sophie Ingledow said: “I applied to take part in this scheme as studying at Cambridge is one of the options I am considering. I am looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere of a top university and finding out what life is like as a student there.”
