Allerdale residents urged to acknowledge Remembrance Day

[A]n Allerdale Borough Councillor is encouraging local people to show their support for the upcoming Remembrance Day.

Councillor Carni-McCarron Holmes is the Council’s Armed Forces Champion. She said: “This is a very important time to remember and honour the work and sacrifices of the brave men and women of the Armed Forces.”

Armistice Day takes place on Saturday 11 November 2017, when many commemorative events and ceremonies will be held across the country as a mark of respect, and a two minute silence is traditionally observed at 11am.

“Allerdale Borough Council is dedicated to working with members of the Armed Forces who return to the area. Our housing team provides a fantastic service to help people find homes and we offer a space at Allerdale House to the Royal British Legion, who come in every week to provide drop-in sessions to those who need it.

“I encourage everyone across the borough to support the acts of Remembrance and the work of the Royal British Legion this weekend, and wear your poppies with pride.”
