[J]ohn Stevenson MP paid a visit to the Bendalls Engineering site on Thursday 9th November to meet with the business and staff and get a sense of the work they do.
The site, situated in the Kingmoor Industrial Estate to the north of Carlisle, constructs highly specialised, precision technology for a variety of high-tech industries, particularly the nuclear industry along the west coast of Cumbria.
Whilst visiting the site, John was able to see some of this advanced equipment being constructed, some of which will be used to handle radioactive materials at Sellafield.
John said: “It was fascinating to see what is done at Bendalls first hand. Carlisle is home to world-leading engineering and manufacturing companies such as Bendalls, who have an international reach and potential to develop further.”
Whilst at the site, John also had the opportunity to speak with the recently appointed Managing Director, Simon Williams, and discuss how Cumbria as a whole can build on the nuclear expertise concentrated in the west of the county.
John added: “Carlisle is a more major component of the Cumbrian nuclear economy than many people realise, with companies such as Bendalls being a vital link in the nuclear supply chain. I am keen to do what I can to promote the growth of the nuclear industry in a way that benefits the entire county, and draws on the impressive expertise and experience of all those involved with high-tech engineering in companies such as Bendalls.”
