[T]his week will see Coniston Fire Station play host to a special ‘Ladies Night’ aimed at women interested in finding out more the fire and rescue service and the role of firefighters.
The event takes place on Wednesday night (15 November) at Coniston Fire Station from 7pm to 9pm and is open to all females over the age of 17.
The aim of this informal event is to allow local women to get an insight into the nature of the role. Serving female firefighters will be on hand to discuss their experiences. As well as cake and coffee the event will include a Q&A session and opportunity for one to one discussions.
Kasey Grainger, On Call Recruitment Officer for Cumbria Fire said Rescue Service, said: “This is a really informal event, bring a few friends and just drop in for a slice of cake and a chat. Firefighting has a pretty macho image that can be off-putting for some, but there are female firefighters both in full-time and on-call positions. This is just an opportunity to find out a bit more about what’s involved, irrespective of whether you are considering a career in the fire service. I’m really looking forward to meeting people and sharing my passion for the job.”
This is a drop-in session; there is no need to book place.
