[L]ast night, pladis’s supply chain team took home an award for Consumer Products at the Supply Chain Excellence Awards 2017, recognising its outstanding response to the devastating floods at its Carlisle McVitie’s factory, caused by Storm Desmond in 2015.
pladis’s supply chain team was recognised for demonstrating excellence in the way the complete supply chain is organised and managed. Judges praised its swift and well-managed response to the challenges posed by the floods caused by Storm Desmond which damaged the site in December 2015.
Lee Nicholls, Vice President UK & Europe Supply Chain, pladis UK and Ireland, said: “Maintaining excellence after the devastating floods at our Carlisle factory was a significant challenge. However, our supply chain team worked collaboratively and with great agility to help restore the factory and commence production sooner than expected.”
The McVitie’s site in Carlisle, owned by pladis, is the oldest biscuit manufacturing site in the world (est.1837). In December 2015, the site was flooded by Storm Desmond. The site team got production back up and running in four months, gained full production levels in five months and constructed a new flood defence system.
