[T]oday, Friday 17 November students from Central Academy saw the powerful play ‘Who Cares?’.
Who Cares? are on a national tour, delivering a gripping verbatim theatre production based on a year of interviews that offer a rare insight into a year in the lives of three young carers from Salford. The play aims to identify ‘hidden’ young carers in society and signpost them to support available through the local young carers service.
Who Cares? highlights the reality facing some young people who often care for family members, under the radar of their school or social services.
Director of Key Stage 4, Stephanie Slater said: “There is a hidden army of young people in our community caring for relatives with no support.
“By watching this production and taking part in a workshop, the unseen plight of these young people is recognised. It also informed them of how to get support when they need it. Being a carer is hard work, and for young people even more so as they are still growing up.
“The performance was hard-hitting and thought provoking.”
The performance was held at Carlisle Youth Zone.
