[B]asement club Burscough defied their league position to produced a disciplined and determined performance that frustrated Penrith.
Penrith took the early initiative taking the lead in only the 6th minute when Nat Broad beat the keeper to a through ball and finished at the 2nd attempt.
From then on Burscough packed the defensive and midfield areas and played with real determination to frustrate Penrith. Time and again Burscough crowded Penrith out and disrupted Penrith play in the midfield area.
Burscough were content to play on the counter attack and were looking accomplished at this too, creating several half chances.
Ht 0-1
Into the 2nd half Burscoughs confidence was obviously growing. They stuck to their task and became more of an attacking threat.
Their endeavour paid off in the 58th min when they equalised after sloppy Penrith defending.
Penrith put in a massive effort to get back into the lead but just didn’t possess the creativity to open the resilient Burscough defence.
Ft 1-1
Manager Simon Savage spoke after the game ”Its a tough result to take but full credit to Burscough who played very well on the day. We must now pick ourselves up for a massive home game against contender Bury Ladies next Sunday at Frenchfields”.
