[C]arus Green Golf Club has raised £1,000 for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. The money was raised from the club’s recent President’s Day, plus generous donations from members. 150 participants took to the course on 12th August for an individual stableford tournament followed by a raffle, and on Friday evening, Club President, Alan Farnsworth, presented the cheque to Volunteer Administrator of the local Multiple Sclerosis group, Margaret Brockbank.
Alan has chosen the Multiple Sclerosis Society as his ‘charity of choice’ for the duration of his tenure as President of Carus – almost two years – and in this time, has raised almost £3,000 for the organisation. In the past, he has requested that donations contribute to on-going research, but this time, the money will be used for the benefit of local sufferers. Mrs Brockbank – also a member of Carus Green – says that the organisation relies upon people like Alan to raise vital funds, and awareness:
“There are around 150 sufferers of Multiple Sclerosis in the South Lakes area and the organisation arranges approximately six events each year in an attempt to raise the £11,000 required to continue with the work that we do,” she says. “Yoga, dance and movement, alternative therapies and hydrotherapy swimming sessions are just some of the activities that we organise for sufferers. We are so grateful to Alan and the members at Carus Green for enabling us to continue with our important work.”
“I was delighted to present Margaret with the cheque and hope that these funds will enable the continuation of the fantastic work that she and her colleagues do across our region,” says Alan. “I should like to thank very much, the members at Carus Green, who gave so generously, and owner, Graham Curtin, for supporting our fundraising activities.”
The cheque presentation was made during the Seniors prize-giving dinner on 17th November.
