A real Christmas cracker of a programme, featuring big band versions of your favourite Christmas Carols alongside popular yule-tide numbers such as Santa Baby, I’ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm, Baby It’s Cold Outside, through to Diana Krall’s version of Jingle Bells – to name just a few. The programme will also feature a selection of sparkling Big Band Swing classics to warm you up on a winter’s night. The perfect swinging start to your Christmas festivities!
The BBC Big Band
Widely regarded as the world’s leading and most versatile Orchestras, The BBC Big Band continues to delight audiences around the world through their broadcasts on BBC Radio and their live performances.
In addition to its regular studio and concert recordings, the BBC Big Band regularly gives live performances at major venues around the UK and abroad, as well as appearing alongside major music artists. The band’s list of collaborations with international artists, reads like a ‘who’s who’ the music industry, and includes the likes of: Van Morrison, Georgie Fame, Tony Bennett, George Benson, George Shearing, Michael Bublé, Mel Torme and Ray Charles – to name just a few!
Within the UK, the BBC Big Band is probably best known for its show Big Band Special on BBC Radio 2, as well its appearances on BBC Radio 3’s Jazz Line Up. Its performances also reach huge global audiences through its regular broadcasts for the BBC World Service, satellite radio and via the internet.
Recent performances have included festival appearances at the Aberdeen, Cheltenham, Edinburgh, Great North and Brecon Jazz Festivals; concerts at London’s Royal Albert Hall at BBC Proms and also the Proms in the Park series; as well as the UK’s premier concert venues, such as Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall and the Sage Gateshead.
