[T]o help mark the 30th anniversary of the Grizedale Stages Rally, this year’s ‘ceremonial start’ will take place at the Lakeland Motor Museum in Backbarrow on Saturday 2 December 2017.
It’s the first time in its 30 year history that the prestigious event will get underway at the Museum, before competitors head for the twists and turns of the challenging Grizedale Forest stages. Around 80 cars are expected to take part – including some of the top national crews – with one vehicle setting off every minute from 9am onwards.
The Lakeland Motor Museum’s newest recruit, Chris Williams, will be participating in the event for the ninth time, alongside Irish driver Paul McCann. Duty Manager Chris came second overall in both 2013 and 2014. He has also previously scooped the titles of Welsh Rally Champion, British Rally Champion and North Rally Champion over the past 5 years.
Chris says, “I grew up with the Grizedale Stages Rally and it’s one of the highlights of my year. It’s fantastic to be bringing this spectacular event to the Lakeland Motor Museum, and adding a different dimension to the attraction’s collection of cars and motorcycles from the last century. For visitors, it’s a great introduction to the world of motorsport, as well as the chance to step inside the Museum and see an array of classic and vintage vehicles.”
Graham Parker has been Rally Manager for the last 20 years. He says, “For our 30th anniversary event we have put together a unique event for our competitors showcasing the best of the Lake District to complement the best stages in England. So we were delighted when the Lakeland Motor Museum agreed to host the start of the rally. It’s an iconic and appropriate venue.”
Programme holders for the Grizedale Stages Rally can claim 20% off museum entry all day, Saturday 2 December 2017.
