[T]he Blencathra Centre in Threlkeld near Keswick (Lake District) has been nominated in the coveted British Youth Travel Awards.
The awards, co-ordinated by the British Educational Travel Association (BETA) are this year celebrating their 10th anniversary with an award ceremony on Thursday 7th December in London.
The Blencathra Centre, which is owned by Field Studies Council, has been shortlisted alongside Oxford Royale Academy and World Nomads Travel Scholarships for Best Educational Product.
Every year FSC Blencathra Centre welcomes 9,000 students to the site on biology, geography and geology trips, from primary age up to university students, as well as families and individuals on learning holidays throughout the year.
Tim Foster, Head of FSC Blencathra Centre says: “British Youth Travel Awards finalists exemplify outstanding talent and distinguished businesses that make up this vibrant sector. Our visitors come from all over the UK, and for many it is their first trip to the Lake District. During their courses, students encounter our approach to ‘green tourism’. It is a unique educational product, enriched through an awareness of the special relationship between people and the environment. We are really pleased to be a finalist in the Best Educational Product category and are looking forward to the awards ceremony in London on the 7th December.”
The nomination come shortly after was awarded the Secondary Geography Quality Mark (SGQM) and the coveted Centre of Excellence Status by The Geographical Association.
