[A] NEW date has been set for the trial of four schoolboys who deny the alleged rape of a 15-year-old girl in Workington.
The four teenage boys, all aged under 16, each deny three charges – two alleging the rape of the female, and one alleging a further sexual assault on her.
These arise out of an incident in Workington on the evening of January 3.
Earlier this month, the boys went on trial at Carlisle Crown Court. However, that hearing was halted during the ninth day last Thursday after the trial judge, His Honour Peter Davies, was taken ill.
A jury of seven women and five men was then formally discharged on Monday.
The case was mentioned at the crown court this morning (WED), when a new trial date was listed for January 8, 2018.
This will take place at the city court in front of Judge James Adkin, and is due to last around two weeks.
