Allan Barnett, Brinns, Shap – Champion Beast

[O]n Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their Annual Christmas Primestock Show & Sale, kindly sponsored by Armstrong Watson Accountants.

This year’s judge was Geoff Nutter from Preston who awarded the Championship Honours to Mr A Barnett, Brinns, Shap. His Champion Limousin Heifer sold for £3 per kilo (£1716) to Peter Smith, Butcher of Cocklakes Farm Shop, Penruddock.

Reserve Honours went to Mary Wilson, Hardrigg Hall whose Limousin cross Bullock sold for £1568.44 (226 pence per kilo) to Mr L Fell on behalf of Pearson Wholesale Butchers.

An excellent run of Prime Heifers were forward to a large crowd of interested onlookers to average 227.37 pence per kilo.

Prime Bulls met a flying trade with an average of 206.5 pence per kilo being achieved.

Topping at 229.5 pence per kilo for a Limousin Bull weighing 613kg from Messrs Raine, Fog Close. This run of five Bulls averaged £1,494.86 and sold to £1,650.95 for a fabulous Charollais Bull weighing 742kg (222.5 pence per kilo).
