[A]N uninsured danger driver who crashed off a main Carlisle road close to a pedestrian crossing has been jailed.
Alfred John Brown, 37, was being pursued by police who reached 100mph moments before he left the city’s Orton Road on October 1 and mounted a kerb.
In a Vauxhall Corsa, Brown then travelled across a grassy area and ploughed into a litter bin before coming to rest. He attempted to flee from police but was swiftly caught.
Carlisle Crown Court heard one officer who saw the Corsa strike an object later stated: “I feared it was a pedestrian.”
Nobody was hit nor hurt. Brown, of Mardale Road, Carlisle, was sentenced today after admitting dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and no insurance.
He was jailed for 10 months by Judge Peter Hughes QC, who told him: “You could so easily have seriously injured or killed somebody by the manner of your driving.”
