[T]wo men are currently in police custody following an incident at an address in Barrow today (10 Dec).
Cumbria Police were called by North West Ambulance Service after paramedics attended Gloucester Street in Barrow at around 7am today.
A 31-year-old man was found to be suffering from a suspected cardiac arrest. However, he was also found to have injuries consistent with having been assaulted.
Officers attended and arrested a 38-year-old man at the scene on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.
A second man aged 39 has also been detained in relation to this incident after being located in the Salthouse Mills area of Barrow. He was taken away by ambulance having suffered a suspected drugs overdose.
The 31-year-old man found in Gloucester Street has subsequently died.
Superintendent Sarah Jackson of Cumbria Police said: “Following the death of the 31 year old, we have ensured we have specially trained officers supporting the family and out thoughts are with them at this time . We have now launched a murder investigation and extra patrols are in the area to gather information about what has happened.
“It is important that anyone who witnessed anything relating to what has taken place and has yet to speak with us makes contact immediately so we can gather as full a picture of what has taken place as soon as possible.”
