Today with 900 members it is one of the largest motor clubs in the UK and had twice won the prestigious MSA Motor Club of the Year in 2005 and 2013. Members take part in almost every branch of motorsport and the Clubs runs some 26 events a year including autotests, historic and targa rallies, classic tours and a large number of social events.
The Cumbria Classic Weekend was first held in 1989. Now the Weekend consists of the Rose & Thistle Challenge tour on the Saturday and the Cumbria Classic and Motorsport Show on the Sunday.
They are fortunate to be able to hold the Show in the parkland at Dalemain which is just two miles from Junction 40 (Penrith) of the M6. Last year over 750 cars entered. There are lots of car club displays plus the famous grass autotests, trade stands while entrants also get discounted admission to Dalemain and its gardens. Each the number of spectators increase, and these come from a wide area of northern England and southern Scotland.
The motorsport aspect of the show is important, and we have displays of rally and race cars as well as the autotests. Each year they have feature displays for certain marques of models.
