[W]est Cumbria’s Carnegie Theatre & Arts Centre has launched its new season of events, bursting at the seams with entertainment and cultural excellence for every taste.
Comedy legends are top of the list as David Baddiel brings his Olivier nominated one man show, My Family Not The Sitcom. Described as a massively disrespectful celebration of his late sex-mad mother and dementia-ridden father. Described as side splitting and also moving, this is the must see event of the year in Workington.
The Not The Nine O’Clock News and Three Men in a Boat star, Griff Rhys Jones will also be coming to the theatre on 25th January with his reminiscences, stories, anecdotes and “outright lies” in “Where Was I”?
Local theatre companies, WADAMS, WAOS Jrs & MAODS bring the West End to Workington with three magnificent musicals. Tony Award winning, Barnum will bring circus to life in February, family favourite, The Wizard of Oz will warm hearts over the Easter break and hit jukebox musical, Rock of Ages promises to raise the roof in May!
Live music is huge part of the Carnegie’s heritage and this season ramps up the ante on that score! The South return to Workington with their brilliant back catalogue of chart topping hits and the Lancashire Hotpots bring their unique jamboree to satisfy both the ears and the funny bone! World famous brass band and the real stars of Brassed Off, Grimethorpe Colliery Band will be appearing in March. For local folk fans, BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winners, Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman will be bringing their distinct and eclectic sound to the stage.
Tribute and nostalgia fans will also be well catered for with Foreigners Journey, Limehouse Lizzy, The Quo Experience and Explosive Light Orchestra covering the rock base and One Night of Adele, The Tina Turner Experience and Black Magic – The Little Mix Show showcasing brilliant female talent!
Dance is also there, with Strictly stars, Kristina Rihanov and Robin Windsor bringing their new show, Dance to the Music to the Workington venue and Ballet Theatre UK’s The Little Mermaid being performed in April.
CBeebie’s BAFTA winning show is transported to the stage with Sarah and Duck’s Big Top Birthday, a brand new stage show for children.
Theatre Manager, Karen Thompson said, “I’m really proud of the diversity of programming we are able to bring to West Cumbria and can’t wait to welcome local audiences in 2018! Its shaping up to be a cracker of a year!”
