[F]rankie was found abandoned, with significant hair loss and ulcerated skin caused as he tried to ease the skin irritation by clawing himself and pulling at his fur with his mouth.
At just a year old, he was in extreme distress and homeless.
He was taken to Oak Tree Animals’ Charity where he was immediately seen by a vet, and referred to a specialist for tests to try to determine the cause of his intense irritation.
The specialist found that he suffered from several severe allergies, including different types of grasses. With steroid treatment and special hypoallergenic diet, the team at Oak Tree were able to nurse Frankie back to health, managing the source of the irritation and stopping him self-harming. After ten months of veterinary care and support Frankie is now ready to find a special home who have the ability to manage his allergens and stress, this includes a special diet and an indoor home (or controlled outside environment).
Anne-Marie McGivern, Veterinary Nurse Supervisor at Oak Tree said: “We are delighted that Frankie, a beautiful ragdoll cat, has made such a great recovery and is now ready to find his forever home. He is a very friendly cat who is looking for a low stress home environment where he can maintain the health he has fought so hard to regain. We have to thank our partners at Eden Vets and the Dermatology Referral Service, Glasgow for working with us to give Frankie a brighter future.”
