[A] MAN who bit off the end of his partner’s finger has been spared immediate prison.
Stephen Crookall also sank his teeth into the face of the woman’s friend during a violent struggle which flared “out of nothing” at her Carlisle home.
The city’s crown court heard how the tip of his victim’s finger had been found in a garden. But surgeons were unable to re-attach it, leaving her with a shortened digit and “disgusted” by 27-year-old Crookall’s conduct. Her teenage friend, meanwhile, was left “traumatised” having suffered a bite mark to his cheek as he intervened.
Crookall, who was later found wandering the streets, “hysterical” and “covered in blood”, was sentenced today (THURS).
He had admitted causing her woman grievous bodily harm, the teenager actual bodily harm and damaging a door.
Recorder Julie Clemitson suspended an 18-month prison term for 24 months after hearing “strong personal mitigation” on the defendant’s behalf and concluding there was a “realistic prospect of rehabilitation”.
Crookall, of Warwick Close, Southport, must complete a four-month night-time curfew and a rehabilitation activity requirement.
