[A] woman has been flown to hospital after a serious three-vehicle road traffic collision occurred on the A595 Loop Road South in Whitehaven.
Police were called at 1:40pm.
The collision involves a Suzuki, Citroen DS3 and a Ford Fiesta.
An air ambulance attended the scene.
A spokesman for Cumbria Police said: “The driver of the Suzuki – a woman in her 70s from the Workington area, has been taken by air ambulance to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle, she is in a stable condition.
“There are not believed to be any other injuries.”
A spokesman for Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 13:26 firefighters were called to a road traffic collision on Loop Road, Whitehaven.
“On arrival crews found one person was trapped.
“Crews used hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the casualty who was then handed into the care of the paramedics.
“Crews were at the scene for an hour.”
The road was closed while emergency service attended the scene, it reopened at approx 4.30pm.
