[T]HREE girls were hurt after a yob hurled a stone which shattered the window of a school bus in Carlisle.
Police have now appealed for information from anybody who saw the missile-thrower in the city’s Denton Holme on Tuesday at 3-45pm.
The three schoolgirls – at least one of whom was taken to hospital – escaped with minor injuries following an incident on Norfolk Street.
Flying glass is believed to have caused some injuries, and young passengers, who were being transported to the city from Dalston’s Caldew School, are said to have been left “shocked”.
A Cumbria police spokesman said: “The stone caused damage to the bus window. Three teenage girls also received minor injuries.
“Police are investigating the incident and ask any witnesses to contact us on 101.”
A spokesman for the vehicle’s operator, Stagecoach, confirmed: “One of our drivers reported hearing a loud bang as he pulled up to the bus stop on Norfolk Street, Denton Holme, on Tuesday, 16th January.
“After he checked all the people on board were safe, the driver discovered the bus had been struck by a stone, shattering the window. One passenger suffered a minor injury and was taken to hospital to have it checked over.”
The Stagecoach spokesman added: “Incidents like this are rare and we are working closely with the police to assist with their investigation.
“I’d like to thank the passengers for being patient during their wait for a replacement bus service.”
